Crane pond, essex county
« on: Dec 15, 2010, 04:49 PM »
Has anyone ever ice fished it and had any luck? I'm thinking of driving up and checking it out.  Just wondering if it's worth it.  ???  Icepick

Only ice fished it once and got skunked.  I've caught some skinny lakers there in the summer.  Pretty pond but not real fishy in my experiences.

Thanks for the replies guys. I think I'll take a drive up there this weekend and check it out, at least see how much ice is there.  Of course I'll bring some tip ups and jiggin rods just in case

Yes. It's quite an adventure. No bait fish but you could use tipups w/ worms because tipups are Not prohibited...I've caught rainbows and Ethiopian Lakers  through the ice.

cant believe I didnt think of worms, probably because they are hard to get around here during the cold months.... any size to the rainbows?

No size to any fish.  Really it's an adventure getting in there, and has an awesome desolate feeling once you are set up.  So if the ice is safe and you want to mix fishing with a really cool experience, I totally suggest giving it a shot.  But if catching lots of fish s your goal, and you don't like to work hard,  Crane is not the place.  Looking forward to reading about your trip if you do go!
