Home made brook trout traps
« on: Jan 05, 2023, 02:41 PM »
These traps I made are small and light for hike in ponds. They are all 20in and made of cedar. I made every part except for the hardware and flags which are old flags from jack traps that were replaced with their new stainless flags that don't rust. Spools tripper shafts and flag holding brackets I made.

Thanks for sharing the photos of the process. I have recently started building my own traps/ tipups. Fun to make them and when the flag goes up one of your own it’s a good feeling.

Nice job Brookie, that looks like a high quality trap for sure. I have been making my own traps as well but never the spools. Those look awesome, good luck with them.

This why I tie my own flies, furl my own leaders and make my own musky and spinner baits.
May your tip-up spool while your flag raises with hopes of landing the big one.
