First and only school closing i ever had 78 blizzard, a senior. Over a week. Seems like Wind blew for two weeks blowing that snow around. We had 30ft drifts. I have a picture of me standing on top of one of those big advertisement signs you see on highways. I'm sure people froze during that one but cant recall. You had to force your way out doors. Whipped out the quail population also. Everything was covered.

Ya Taxi this older coot saw a lot of snow days back in the day I graduated in 69. We dug out our lake road (Bear Lake) back in 67. Got about 18 inches and a lady across the lake was ready to go into labor so my dad who was scoutmaster got our Klondike sled we built and sledded her to St. rd109 and a waiting EMS. Then hand dug the road with about 50 guys from the lake. Fun times we were young ! Hex

That's cool. I was living overseas in 67' and moved back in 68' to Massachusetts. My wife lived in Whiting/Hammond Indiana in 67' and she told me about all the snow.

im not seeing anything over 15mph winds. thats only the next ten days though.

I'm seeing  gusts up to 25 mph on Thursday. Temps are supposed to drop to 0 at some point too.

Snow. Widespread blowing snow. High near 20. North wind around 15 mph, with gusts as high as 25 mph. Chance of precipitation is 80%. New snow accumulation of 3 to 5 inches possible.

I can remember when I lived in Mass. Heard the of the great NOREASTER, (thought what's this all about). Nothing compared to our LAKE EFFECT. LOL

When I lived out there from 68' to 71' I remember getting 2 feet one weekend (that storm slowed down to 10 mph) and NH got 3 feet, 18 inches the following weekend, and so on in decreasing amounts for about 4 weeks. I do laugh when they warn about drifting when most of their topography is heavily wooded. With our wide open fields I've seen bad drfiting with one inch of snow and high winds.

I remember that the blizzard of 78 happened on a wednesday, and I was at work when I got a call from my wife in the early afternoon.  She told me that they were warning that a  blizzard was coming and that I better head home early for my 20 mile drive back home...and by the way stop at the store and get a gallon of milk and loaf of bread, lol.  So I complied and by the time I made it home at 3 pm, the old buick I drove barely made it into the driveway.  My dad who was 65 at that time got into his 2 wheel drive pickup truck and headed off to his 3rd shift security job at a local factory just about the time I was reaching home.  We didn't see him again until the following saturday when the roads were finally open.He was prepared better than most, having studded snow tires on the back, and a load of cement blocks in the bed and was able to make the 20 or so miles to work.  He said he passed a couple of highway trucks off the road during his trip.  The factory had it's own cafeteria so he was able to get something to eat along with his other stranded work mates.

I got up the next morning and dressed for work, and my wife said "where do you think you are going?"  Being the head strong young male with more testosterone than brains, I marched out of the house toward the car only to find 2 huge snow mounds, one being my wife's VW bug, and my Buick.  I sheepishly marched back to the house to see my wife's "told you so" look on her face.

Even though we live in wooded hills, there were areas on some of the hill tops that drifted .  My neighbor got his dozer out and cleared several drifts.

Lol, that's how it is here, most roads are lower than the fields, so lots of drifting with just a little snow.

I just went out and measured a couple spots in the front yard... about 3.25" here so far. That's all fresh snow, since the rain melted off everythig we had on the ground yesterday afternoon.

It's still coming down hard, but the flakes are really fine.

Even if it snows all the way into tomorrow as forecast, as small as these flakes are, I think we'll only end up with maybe 6-8" around here.

Up here south of Ligonier in Noble County it was snowing this morning at about 3:30 A.M. but it wasn't sticking. An hour later it was. Most of the snow today was light to moderate. But I have about 7 or 8 inches on the ground. Suppose to get about that much or more tonight and tomorrow.

I've got a little over 8" now, and it has tapered off to a flurry here. 50% chance forecast tomorrow morning here.
