In front of NEOC on Millinocket Lake, it's starting to cap.  After tomorrow, the temps really start to drop, except for Monday.  Last year it was pretty dicey where I fish on 1/1, but thinking I will be able to get offshore a few hundred yards by next weekend.  Float pants and ropes for everyone

Maybe in the tropics of Kennebec county but not here. I drilled three test holes today, all of them measured 5-6'" of clear ice. It should be 8+ inches before the rain on Monday. The rain might mess with the edges but that's temporary.

I'm in the Bangor area and the lake where I live locked up last night.  It's nowhere near safe and probably will open up again with the weather predicted for Monday but it's from shore to shore and not just protected areas so will probably seal up nicely with the next cold snap.

I fished one pond yesterday and another this morning. Every hole I drilled was through 7-8" of good clear ice. I saw 2 groups fishing on a third pond. The season has started.

I fished today. found 3-4 inches. i got a nice mixed mess of Crappie Yellow Perch and a bass. Those are cleaned and will make a good meal.
