Anyone have experience with the Striker 4 Plus on the ice using flasher mode? Does it work ok? I usually fish relatively shallow water (less than 20 fow).
A vexilar genz box is fairly inexpensive and works great. I have a helix 5 that I take off my boat and use as a backup. The ram mount actually fits perfectly on the genz box. Never used a striker besides on a camp boat, don’t see why it wouldn’t work fine.
The flasher mode works, but I very much prefer the normal sonar view with the A-scope on like in my avatar. Also the ice transducer comes with a float just FYI.
I've got a Garmin Striker 4 Plus on my boat and am considering putting together an ice package for it as a backup unit in case I have a friend come with or something happens to my main unit (Humminbird Ice45). From what I can tell I'll just need the ice transducer ($80 at Cabelas), another power cord so I don't have to take mine off the boat ($25 Amazon), a battery (already have an extra from my other flasher) and something to mount it to. I was thinking of making something out of an ammo box, big enough to house the battery and carry the ice ducer and head unit inside for transport with a mount on top for the head unit and maybe a small arm of some sort for the ice ducer. Anybody do something similar?I see the ice package for sale for around $200, but that's a little more than I want to spend for a backup unit. Thanks for all the input guys. I think I'm going to stick with my original plan to build one with an ammo can. I'll definitely have to play around with the different modes and settings and see what works best for me. I'll post an update with my final build if anyone is interested.
I only have used a flasher in flasher mode, never used on graph mode even in open water. Is there any good videos on how to read graph mode while ice fishing.
