Casting ice rod
« on: Aug 14, 2021, 10:40 PM »
Ive been trying to find a decent casting rod to use for lakers and 25”+ walleye. usually using size 9 jigging raps and tubes or other soft plastics with a 3/8-5/8 head. Ive been using a 36 inch medium heavy spinning rod and always feel underpowered fighting the fish and just lifting the baits quickly bends the rod over pretty good. Ive been thinking about buying a haat rod but at 46” im worried about room in the shack and at 120$ i might just be better off making my own. Also is there a reason noone makes casting ice rods?

St. Croix makes a Mojo Ice Rod in bait casting at 34" in both a MH and H power.  Very good components for about $50 and handling fish over 25" in length.  Weight of lures easily handling 3/8 oz. to 1 oz.

There is also a Jason Mitchell Mackinaw rod that is a spiral/acid wrap line guides.

I’ve got an older St. Croix bait caster rod that I bought for $30. I think it’s a premier or something, but we’ll built and always sits in the hard side ready for when a big pike comes around.
