Recovery Based Ice Fishing Program

Hello ice shanty community, my name is Steven Borden and I am a Substance Abuse Counselor based out of Warren/Washington County and also an ice fishing enthusiast. I am currently working to facilitate two recovery based ice fishing excursions as a diversionary program for the Council for Prevention and Glens Falls Drug Court. Our inaugural ice fishing trips with be on 2/17/21 and 2/26/21. With that being said if there is anyone on this forum that is willing to donate old (but usable) gear to help build the program it would be greatly appreciated. They are a lot of people in our local communities that are struggling with addiction and I can’t think of a better way to provide them support than introducing them to the sport that we are so passionate about. Due to the pandemic many recovery programs have been paused or have gone virtual which is putting a strain on people struggling with addiction. I am hoping some good old fashioned fresh mountain air and icing some jumbos may be helpful to people seeking to find healthy new hobbies to replace old unhealthy ones. Please feel free to PM me if you have some unused gear that you would like to donate. Tight lines!

Got a go fund me page or anything? I’ve been in recovery for 18 years and applaud and would like to support your effort but I don’t have much gear that I no longer use. And the cost of shipping would probably exceed the value of what gear I could spare. I could do a modest donation though.

I commend you for this. Yes I have a few things the I could donate. I will not ship tho would have to meet. I’ll have to look but I think I have an old shack o 2 they may need a little tlc for the frames and or canvas. I may have a rats nest of tip ups too not sure. Pm me.

I've known quite a few people in recovery throughout my life, some made it, some were statistics.

addiction is a crazy disease for sure.
