Clam X200 Pro Thermal
« on: Dec 11, 2020, 04:50 AM »
Just bought one.  Thoughts?

Can I Smitty sled it?
Is the 1800D noticeably warmer?
Is it an improvement over the Jason Mitchell Thermal X or the Voyager X Thermal Ice Team?

Only interested in opinions from folks who have first hand experience.  Not those who are speculating based on price and internet reviews.  I know I could have bought a Sierra or Nanook for $700 less.  Got it.  But this one is purchased and I just want to hear pros/cons so I know what to expect, what to plan on doing to improve it, and any issues that I might be facing...

May have wasted money, not sure.  But I liked the idea of 50% more insulation, 1800D total fabric weight, and a custom fitted thermal floor option.  Price was not a concern so I put regarding saving money are irrelevant.

Biggest worry at this point is the weight.  It seems like a bear.  I was hoping to find a 2 man flip over I could use by myself but have available for when I have time to take one of the kids out after school quick and don’t want to mess with the Eskimo 9416i.

Sorry if this came across harshly.  I’ve just spent almost the entire night reading opinions about several different traps from folks who end up admitting they’ve never used the one they’re commenting on.

I have the X300 Pro Thermal Which is also 1800 denier fabric. only Difference is that the X300 is the three person and the X200 is the two person version. the 1800 denier fabric is the warmest on the market. it is made by using two layers of 900 denier fabric with the insulation sandwiched between them.  Yes it is a improvement over the Jason Mitchel Thermal X and the Voyager Thermal X Ice Team edition house ( I have one of these too.) both of them are only 900 denier fabric (two layer of 450 denier with the insulation in between). the advantage of the X200 pro thermal is that it includes the following accessories : Large dimmable  light bar, battery bracket, center console, & travel cover. another plus it that is has the gray colored interior tub so it is easier to see small item in the tub and has the 4 door. another add on option is the removable floor for it if that is something you would want to add later.  The weight will be the big down fall as the X200 pro weighs in at 152 lbs approx. before any gear is added in. the X200 pro is better pulled by a ATV or Snowmobile. not really a house that was made to be hand pulled. Hope this helps you some. Almost forgot I do recommend getting a runner kit to save the wear and tear on the tub. Also the Pro hitch is the recommended hitch for this house.

Perfect!  Thank you for the information!

Although, Cabela’s was kind enough to contact me today to let me know they won’t ship it (to their store) in Alaska.

Back to square one between the Jason Mitchell and the Voyager Thermal Ice Team version.  Both of those are in stock up here but neither is set up in the store to see.

Just an update - Cabela’s called back to tell me they were willing to ship the X200 me but they would only do it on a barge so it wouldn’t be here until mid-January.  I told them to pound sand, I don’t want to wait that long when a local store had the 2 man Jason Mitchell (I forget the model) and the Voyager X Thermal Ice Team Edition in stock on the floor.

I went ahead and grabbed the Voyager X Thermal and I’m putting it together tonight with a few adult beverages.  I’m pretty excited about getting this thing out on the ice.  I’ve only used huns until now, and after watching some of these “trick my trap” videos, I’m beyond excited to start customizing this thing.

Yep, I came across those last night.  Bought a heat gun on a buddy’s recommendation and didn’t end up needing it.

Drill winch gets here today as well as those coffee table hinges and some skis.  I’m gonna do one of those arrangements with the retracting skis set up like a Smitty sled.  Gonna have to wax the heck out of this thing because the plan is to drag it by foot when hole hopping.
