Two more augers to recondition
« on: Dec 20, 2020, 09:46 PM »

Picked these up for free. Sharpening the one set of blades they had. Both were in good shape. Little clean up and see how it turns out.

I should restore a few.ive got quite a few of the older fold up style offset  handle moras that are pretty extinct now.

If you want to bring them up to date like the new mora augers so you can use with all the new stuff. Just get a $15 clam extention like this.

The screw in Handel and the folding will slide into the extention and you can drill holes for the height adjustments on the old handle.

Cut the actual eXtension part on the clam extension off. Now the handle tube can slide all the way through the top part of the clam extension. This is what you want.

Then cut the top off on the auger (folding stem/screw top). Now you should have the main tube which is hallow. Insert the top part of the clam extension you cut off and weld it to the auger tube top.

You’ll have an updated mora auger with adjustable height handle, and can use all the new adaptors with it. An offset handle will be nice to drill with.....if you don’t use an electric drill.

I haven’t got around to it yet....but I’m planning on doing this with my 10in folding handle mora. That way I can easily change out the handle and put it on my clam plate. It also will bring it up to date to use with my clam plate and other extensions.

It cost about $15 for the clam extension so pretty cheap part bring it up to date.

Pretty much done. Waiting on a blade cover and blades for the one.

Tried out the other cut like butter.

Agronomist_at_IA,  Where do you get the blade cover for the Mora Hand Auger?  I have an 8" Mora.

Have a chance to get an old Model 30 Jiffy with both 8 and 10" bits.  Might get it since it is only $75 and a one owner.

I might do it just to add to my old fishing collection. Sand it all down and repaint it. Sharpen the blades and admire it.

pretty much why i keep my jiffy 1arm bandit.its a cool piece of ice drilling history and ive kept it original and haven't converted it to the double handle.it doesnt owe me anything and still has more power and cuts fast.it barks.lol ive got a few spoon auger for the collection too.depending on your model 30 I probably got a tecumseh oem carb rebuild kit if you need it.free of charge.i got the model 30 carb fuel pump kits for sure.thats what goes bad mostly.

I haven't contacted the guy yet but will today. For a young man out doing this Ice fishing thing it would be perfect. Thanks for the offer on the repair stuff. Will keep that in mind for sure.
