Lx-7 charging
« on: Feb 17, 2020, 12:55 PM »
Would a power bank for a phone work to charge a lx-7 for extra run time ? Where would I find usb to single pin cord that would work?

What is the battery nominal voltage of the lx-7?  A quick search showed a 12 [V] input.  A USB provides only 5 [V].  It won't charge a 12 [V] battery.  You need to match the voltage capability of the alternate source to the battery voltage.

An extra battery is nominal money and won’t be a wasted expense if you keep fishing

My bad , this is a lithium shuttle that I received as a gift . Run times are coming up short on a before light to after dark sit . Hoping amped gets a good battery figured out for next season.

you can use the charge port on the shuttle and go to an external battery. looks like one could fit behind the head unit and sit where a float would sit on top of the shuttle. would need a couple of velcro straps to hold it down like any other shuttle uses.

That shuttle battery on a full charge should last way longer than sunrise to sunset...

when they first came out i bought one so mine is that old. the run times drop with charge cycles like any battery does. i used to get 24 hours with the back light on low. the voltage drops faster now that it has a lot of time on it. a new one would fix it, but they want to much money for their battery. you can almost buy a new shuttle for what they want for their battery. when i bought mine their battery was on their website for 99$. they soon took it down, so now you have to ship your shuttle to them. i did call them out on the bait and switch tactic and they would only say the battery that was posted would never have been shipped. so they never would address their tactics. maybe some thing to do with that type of battery shipped loosely or not installed. even then, i bought one to replace in an ipad that is the same type but much smaller, so i'm not sure what the problem might be. greed maybe.

a worn battery is one that can only provide 80% of the original charge. our cell phones do the same thing.

12Ah should manage that. If this thing is < 1 year old I'd contact Marcum and complain. You could get service under warranty. over that I'd retrofit to accept a conventional LiFPo. Amped makes a 12 Ah battery now sized like the 7 - 9 Ah SLA/10 Ah Li. Battery life on these Marcum jobs seem to be a leading complaint.

Reason you gotta send 'em in is you gotta crack the shuttle case to get to the battery. I'm sure Marcum considers that as "no user serviceable parts inside". Still, if you're out of warranty that wouldn't matter.
To fish or not to fish? That's a stupid question!

We I have the year they came out just as 3300 . They want $140 + the shipping to install new battery, amped says they are working on a replacement, but in mean time I’ll use my LX-5 with amped lithium for long outings . I am going to see if a 12ah will fit though . Sucks

I don't have lithium batteries on my Lx6 or my Lx7 and have yet to run a battery down to where it won't run my Marcum. Longest I went was 18 hours on my Lx7 and it was still working when I packed up my stuff. I honestly don't understand why anyone would pay for lithium.

I just take really good care of my batteries, keep it off the ice, and shut off every bell and whistle I don't use, and I run my backlight at about 40% inside the shack. My batteries sit on a trickle charger when not in use. It rides to the lake up in front of the truck with me. I think keeping it warm might help, but I am not sure. It is just a really great piece of equipment.

I will tell you tho with the lead acid my battery Guage on my lx7 reads 13 volts with lithium shuttle fully charged its 12.5 weird huh lasts longer in the end but wish the lithium would give you .5 volts more of draw out of it like the older lead acid on stock pack

Re: Lx-7 charging - Marcum Service is a Joke

I bought 2 Lithium Shuttle in November.   What a nightmare!   Lasted maybe 10 hours.    I would charge it, remove from charger, turn it off and the next day it would say 91%.   Last 10 hours on the ice for my LX-7

I bought two of them last fall for my son and I.  His works as expected.   I finally contacted Marcum through the only way possible,  email of the website.  What a joke.  It takes them a day to answer, then you reply and it takes another day for them to answer.  I did this for a week and finally sent it back at my expense, $10. They replaced the battery and sent it to my old address, because their Product Registration page doesn't work.  It went to my old house from when I registered a camera 3 years years ago...

I asked for a refund and they said they would send it overnight once they got it back from my old address.  We'll see if that happens.   Been three weeks in Ice Prime season without it, have since bought an Amped Outdoors battery and love it.  Don't need the shuttle or any other Marcum product for that matter....done with them, once this crap breaks. (The camera light quit working the second time out, of course it was out of warranty by then.

I could have gotten a repair from HB in a week, a phone call speeds up the process greatly.  Marcum/Rapala has a lot to learn about service.
