lfg-120 locator/sounder troubleshooting?

Please move this post to the proper place if i'm posting in wrong spot!

I purchased an old Lowrance lfg-120 sounder locator from a guy at a garage sale this summer when testing it, seems to work great until the transducer is plugged in.  the light works on unit unless the transducer is plugged in..   Any ideas on what would cause this?  I can not seem to find any schematics online or troubleshooting or even a manual for this old beast!

I have a newer vexilar,  I would like to fix this one because it is vintage,  and would be cool to use.

I was hoping someone could point me in the right direction of where to find any info on this.  Guess I will have to spend another couple hours looking and troubleshooting
