Cheap Bells or lights to use on tip ups at night
« on: Jan 14, 2020, 09:35 AM »
Where do you guys buy cheap bells or lights to use on tip ups?  Is there anything better I could use?

Group of us are going up north this week and plan on having some tip ups while we sit around the fire at night.

Any tips/recommendations are appreciated!

CeePac, I prefer to use the tip up lights! I don't want to here bells ringing in the piece and quite of the night unless its the dinner bell ;)

I use these Frabill lights work great easy to see! Good luck this week!

Blue tipz are also an option if you can find them.... They send a signal to your phone so you dont even have to watch although they also have a light

Thanks

Light is always on. They come with a little watch battery in each one. Still easy to tell if it is up or down.

Get some reflective tape off of Amazon or whatever.  Put them on the flag.  With a spot light you can see it 100+ yards away.  No batteries to wear out & always work.
That's my story and I'm sticking to it.

Thanks for the recommendation. For $9 I went this route.  We only plan to use them at night and with 20 - we should be good for the entire weekend.

I use reflective tape on my flags and another strip were the flag sits near the frame.
On my heritage tip ups.
Shine with a light and you can easily see them.
When the up you can see the flag.

I fish Heritage tip up (20+ years old now) and have wrapped silver reflective tape around the top of the mast and a mini flag of red reflective tape just below the flag. I shine a light over the spread, I easily see every trap and if the red is over the silver, its time to go get the fish, red below the silver, back to jigging! Cheap, works very well. Don't put them in a line, it is much harder to make out what is happening!

I like this!  Just ordered.  Thanks for sharing.  Wish they had different color options, but oh well.  Do they work hold onto the flags well, or do you find you need to add some tape to get them to hold?

They hold on great. They clamp on and screw down so they won't come off.
