Anyone still using an Electra auger
« on: Jan 08, 2020, 11:22 PM »
Just curious if anybody is still using a Strikemaster Electra auger? Are you still using the lead acid flasher battery or switched to the lithium ion flasher battery? Curious how the battery life is when upgrading and if anybody has a comparison be to one of the new electrics for weight or performance?

I've seen a few online for sale that are reasonable enough that with a new Dakota lithium battery intrigued me as it's significantly cheaper than a new auger, plus in 10 years you will still be able to find a battery for it!

Still using mine after 11 seasons and I am still using the lead acid flasher battery. Replaced the original battery in year 9.
May your tip-up spool while your flag raises with hopes of landing the big one.

switched to the lithium ion flasher battery?

We tried this 8 or so years ago. The BMS on the batteries we tried didn't work, the Electra 12000 dp pulled too much current at startup, causing the battery to internally shutoff.  That was with the predecessor to the Dakota, the Clean Republic Bamboo Lithium.  I sold the auger before the Dakota branded version came out, so never tried other options.

I believe I noticed the  of the Amped 12ah might be higher (20a)?  I'd call and talk with Matt about it, he might have additional info from other users.  Now that I'm thinking about it, I would be excited to try something like the m18 high demand, they would likely work AND would give you more RPM.  Those Electras turn painfully slow.
