Got to hit Harvey Gap Reservoir this last weekend...My GF and I had been up several times prior and the ice was around 2-3"...This time it was 4-5" and about 3/4 of the lake was Ice Fishable!! This is nice because we've been hitting higher elevation lakes in order to find some good ice (9,800 feet +), it's local for me, and we finally get to target some warwater species!!
We landed into a handful of Yellow Perch!

We also encountered a really messed up incident...Someone was just leaving fish out. It's explained/shown in the video...thoughts on that?

Hope you all enjoy...Nice to catch some other fish besides trout to switch things up ;D

Certainly Harvey seems to have an overabundance of small perch, based on my fishing it over the years.  Unfortunately, some people believe they are fisheries biologists, and do what you saw. His wasting of fish is a violation of fishing regulations.  Obviously you did not see what he did until he left, which makes it more difficult to report him unless you got a vehicle type and color, and/or a license plate.  I witnessed the same issue at Boyd Lake a few years ago, and the fish were even bigger.  The guy said perch were trash fish.  CPW re-educated him.  No idea if there were any fines or license suspensions.  Remember, no one ever said:  that fish tastes small!

It seems that its a mixed bag of feelings about this across different platforms. People are saying it's no limit for a reason and others are more on your/my page. I VERY recently learned that CPW relocated thousands of perch last year to a nearby reservoir to help with population control there; they also have been introducing more predators. I get no limit but leaving fish on the ice seems wrong :P Either way, wasn't happy walking up on that but at least I feel better knowing that the lake is specifically over-ran.

Tyler,Samantha I've been enjoying your videos the two of you are having a good ice fishing season to date. Have similar feelings about people leaving fish on the ice. Tyler this is just a suggestion try being less aggressive when setting the hook on yellow perch just use your wrist or lift up on the rod to set the hook. If you watch your video i think you will see you were having more success hooking the perch when you used a gentler hook set.

Glad you have been enjoying them, and THANK YOU very much for the tips...As I've mentioned before, Sam and I are pretty new to ice fishing so any help we can get; we'll accept :) I didn't even think about the hook set, good point!! I'll have to try that next time I go for perch, hoping to do a catch and cook in the next few weeks.
