Brewer Lake
« on: Dec 20, 2006, 09:23 PM »
I bought a camp on Brewer Lake in Orrington last summer.  Not much time to fish it yet, doing alot of fixin up.  Just wondering if any members are from the area and fish it?  I hear it's mostly salmon, white perch and bass.  I also heard it is fished heavy in the winter.  Needless to say I'll be ice fishing there most of the season.  Anyone have some insight?

When you heard that it's fished hard in the winter- that was no false statement.  Many a day of mine were spent on Brewer.  I had a shack there for a  few years and always had a grand time.  The salmon in the lake have always been "racers" long and thin.  The action is often hot and the local color is great.  I remember one shack that was yellow and looked like a hot dog stand- I wonder if it is still there?

In 2005 I took my cousin there for a day.  He is from far northern Minnesota and expertly caught a keeper salmon.  His first Maine catch.  He couldn't understand why we fish with "traps" rather than "tip-ups".  "How the heck do you "trap" 'em?", he'd ask in a thick Minnesota accent.

Feel free to drop me a personal message.  I'd be pleased to spill my guts with all I know of the lake.  Providing thereis ice, mAybe we could even fish "your" lake a bit this winter.

Id say if you have a camp there...FISH ON!
I used to fish there all the time...backside of the island is a nice lil spot..outta the wind..fire on shore..etc..always had fast action...as mentioned before me...salmon are slim and short  :-\

Thanks for the insight guys.  My camp is just past the back side of the island, sits right on the water and almost looks like a shanty ;D

I'll be up there for new years but I think it will be a day of getting the traps ready, wishing for ice.

Welcome to the lake.  You will also enjoy the perch fishing on Fields Pond.  Where do you call home?

Don't worry...I'm a born and bred Maina  ;)

I live on the Raymond/New Gloucester line.  Things are getting crazy down here though, too much development and traffic for me.  The fishing has been crappy too, especially the trout streams.

Don't misread me... Brewer Lake has traditionally been a "locals" lake.  I was only interested because there were never too many folks that owned camps on the lake that were not from Brewer/Orrington or surronding areas.  By all means, welcome to the area and I hope you enjoy the lake and your new camp.  You may also find the deer, duck, timberdoodle and partridge hunting to be excellent within walking distance of your place- if that is also your cup of tea.

And... if you ever meet the guy that built the "Tree House" on the island please let me know.  That is the most interesting camp in the area and I'd like to learn more about it.

Nah..that was just my poor attempt at humor.   I love the area and someday may be a local myself.  I have a great view of the treehouse, we canoe over there often.  I figured the best fishing must be just off the front, that's where I see most of the guys trolling.  Here is my view of the island.

I really appreciate your insight, I'll be sure to let you know when we are up fishing.  I've met a few southern Maine members, can't wait to meet some from the Bangor area.
