Eskimo replacement Auger bit OR KNOCKOFF
« on: Oct 23, 2019, 04:36 PM »
Hey guys last year I broke the thin metal pieces on the bottom of my auger bit where the blades attach. I had it re welded but the angle isn’t quite the same and it doesn’t cut as good, even with fresh blades. Yes I tried that. To buy a 10” auger bit is $170 but there’s a knockoff brand for about $75. Has anyone tried this brand, or better yet is anyone parting out their Eskimo?  ;D ;D

Did you try shimming the blades to change their angle?  Also, did you notice if BOTH blades are cutting after the repair, or only one?

Had the same problem on a Strikemaster.  One of the welds gave way and had it re-welded but wouldn't cut for krap.   Shimmed under the front edge which tipped the nose of the blade down and cuts like new.

Well hey, I’ll give that a shot during the early season. I never thought about shimming it. Thanks guys. It was a pain during February when the ice was thick but I should be okay until January anyway. I can find tune it until then and see what happens.

Or better yet go electric  ;D but economically I did shim a hand auger back in the day and it worked much better. Definitely worth a go trent. Wait till you see the new ice saw I picked up this summer to open that 8in hole a little better

Well I thought about it. It’s the angel and the devil on your shoulder kind of thing. If I needed to spend the $170 on an Eskimo bit then maybe I’ll jysy buy a new auger instead  ;D

For this price it might be worth it to go electric if you already have a drill Trent
