Took advantage of the extended season in the northern region and spent Fri-Mon at The Birches. We had about 12-18 inches of melt/refreeze on top and probably over a foot of "good" ice underneath. Decided not to venture too far and just fished in front of camp the whole time. Kinda slow, but not terrible. Two of us fished Friday afternoon, Saturday and Sunday with another buddy joining us Saturday. Total catch was 4 togue, 2 short brookies, 2 cusk and three yellow perch. My buddy was REAL excited that he drove 4 hours to catch yellow perch...
But he did ice a nice cusk, probably 2-3 lbs. Neither of us are fish eaters so he/she went back down to hopefully be caught again. I'd be really tempted to go back up again this weekend, but I think it's time to call it a season. Until next winter...
