« on: Mar 05, 2019, 04:29 PM »
Just ordered a showdown to accompany my vs485c anybody have experience with these units? Reviews were mixed but seemed more good than bad. Thanks

I have the showdown 5.6 and I really like it. I have no complaints or issues with it. There seems to be  less  clutter than the flasher units.

A buddy of mine had one and used it for a few years.. he ended up getting a flasher cause the showdown stopped working, I forget what he said happened to it but I guess it just crapped the bed after 2 seasons of normal use.

I remember it was pretty nice, real basic display, straight forward usage. Good for a beginner but might leave a bit to be desired considering the price

I use the 2.0 and have no issues with it. Been using it for several years now. I'm very happy with it, it definitely helps catching fish. Hopefully you bought the carrying case also.

They are nice, capable compact units. Had one for a couple years. Only thing that I didn't like about it was how easily it could slip down an 8" hole. Not saying it did but could easily happen

I use the troller with the carry case and external battery. I'm real happy with it, never had a flasher but fish with friends that use them, I find the troller easier to use...... definitely cheaper...... mine started acting up after 3 seasons. Sent it in to Marcum along with $50, they went thru the whole unit, updated software and guarantied the work for a year..... its been 2 yrs and still works like new.....

Thank you guys. It’s kind of frustrating how common it is with the ice electronics how often issues seem to appear with the money you spend on them. You would think you would at least get to have 5 seasons minimum with no flaws. I guess that’s just how it goes. Have had issues with cameras myself. Thank you

I bought the troller 2.0 last January it didn't work out of the box. I sent it in for warranty repair because stores won't accept returns on defective units. Long story short it's been to marcum 4 times and I've been able to use it for one day. I've given up and next year I'm buying a hummingbird

I have the showdown 5.6.  I like it but being a shallow water panfish guy wish there was a 0-10’ scale. Only 0-20’.

have you ever used the zoom in feature, you can dial right into the range you need.

I have a little experience with the 2.0.  I think it's ok if it's just going to accompany your camera.  A friend of mine used one for a season as his primary unit as a handheld without the performance pack and it would get quirky in ice mode in cold weather and we had to keep warming it up.  Maybe it wouldn't have done that with the performance pack shielding it and a 12v battery.  He sent it in for repair and it still did that after.

I personally would not buy one because there are better units for similar money.

I am a Showdown fan just not the 2.0.  I've owned a 5.6 dual beam for 8 yrs and my son uses it now and it's been nothing but great but even saying that it was $400 back then and the 5.6 single beam is way overpriced now imo.  If I was to pick up another showdown I'd be on the hunt for a used 5.6 dual beam and could probably pick it up for half price.

Have an old zercom RTS that works the same as a showdown. Love how they work!

My nephew has a 2.0....he can rarely see the fish activity as well as my marcum vx1....I tried it several times....I'd take my vx1 any time....I would not buy it.....the hand held option is nice for hole hopping and checking depths.

Not a fan of using both because the graph picks up the camera and marks it as if it were a fish. My 485 marcum won't stay on and blew a fuse. My marcum vx1 pro won't work anymore either. Have to send both in for repair. Got a fl18 works great.

Update, I did order the 2.0 and used it this past weekend. Gotta say for my sake it's all I need and it performed flawlessly. Hopefully no problems down the road.

Have used the 2.0 for about four years. Never any problems and does exactly what it is made to do.
I use rechargeable AAs  and rarely stay out so long that they need changing. Lighter and less bulky than the Performance Pack.
Have been having visibility problems with the camera at a few locations and the 2.0 is my go to.
Sure beats fishing “blind”.
