Nice haul. How do prepare them I've had lake trout once and didn't care for it at all.

Nice work Ian.

On a side note I like to brine them and smoke them over cherry.
Just add water.

Small ones are good pan fried or baked. Bigger ones at or over the 20” range tend to be a bit less tasty when prepared like that. Big ones I like smoked, made into fish cakes, or cooked on a grill whole. The really big ones are so old they do not taste very good, and well they’re old they deserve a chance to go back and try again in my opinion. Not that I have any issue at all with people keeping legal fish, to each their own.

I totally agree let the big ones go plus I usually don't keep what I catch anyways I just enjoy the catch.

I'll give it another shot but try a bit smaller maybe also smoke one. The one I had was around 23-24 inch range and I baked it with butter and garlic. It was kinda earthy and the kids didn't like it. I'm all about catch and eat me and my two kids 8 and 10 like to go get 5 or 6 white perch or crappie for a fish dinner every Sunday. That number seems to go up every year as they grow and eat everything in site.... But a few species I won't keep, native brook trout and giant lakers. They've earned their stripes and in my opinion should keep on keeping on! I just want to catch'em and send them on their way for the next guy.
Every fish is a good fish!
