opti -2 oil help
« on: Apr 06, 2006, 11:52 AM »
I have a  2 hp Jiffy stealth auger that is two years old and has only been used to auger 40-50 holes.  I used regular 2-cycle oil during this time but would like to switch to opti-2 next year.  In searching through the archives, I saw a few threads that mentioned you should break in your auger with the regular oil mix before switching to a synthetic or opti-2.  My question is:  Have I drilled enough holes to consider my auger broken in or should I run it on regular 2-cycle oil for one more season?  Thanks for any help.

I think they recommend the break-in period as two tanks of fuel, but I would say after the first gallon. You can drill a lot of holes on a gallon of gas. When I store mine, I put some sta-bil in the tank and run it dry. I've had my Jiffy 30 for ten years and it has never failed me yet. I always stick with Jiffy oil, just because it's from the same company.

I got my Jiffy 31 (3 hp) three winters ago, and after nearly gassing myself on the smoke from the regular mix of oil:gas, I switched to Opti-2 in the second year of operation.  Having just passed an additional winter of use, I can verify that Opti-2 at 100:1 mix with gas is great!  The oil dripping from the exhaust is virtually eliminated, it runs smooth with no problems starting, and the smoke is almost totally gone.  I had about as many holes drilled as you when I switched, and Opti-2 is all I'll ever use in it now.  Go ahead and start using it.  (I also use Sta-bil in the gas to prevent gas breakdown in storage, although the auger gas is going right into my outboard in about a month.)

wow that sounds great  :) think I'll be switching to Opti-2 next year then too.  ;D
She's all gummed up right now, so cleaned out for next year and the Opti I'll be all set then.
Thanks for the report, Skiff.

As already said I ran two (2) tanks thru mine before switching over.
Just an added benefit about Opti-2 ...... it has fuel stabilizer in it already.  ;)

you can do a search for  Opti-2  .... there should be alot of info.

Shakey, google Interlube International's website.  I have used Opti-2 since 1984 in my Husky powersaws, Husky weedeaters, and in my Tanaka auger since 1986, with never a problem(break-in included).  In fact, Husqvarna in Canada recommends it, and will honour its warranty if any engine failure can be attributed to the use of Opti-2.  Using one mix in all of your 2 cycle engines, including outboards, saves a good deal of confusion, in that you don't have several small containers of mixed gas for each piece of 2 cycle equipment that you might own.  It is available in two different size "pillowpaks", that will mix either 1 gallon or 2 gallons of gas.  Purchasing it in these paks always gives you fresh fuel.

To add a PS to my note above, bushbunny and Trapperdirk were the ones who answered all my questions about Opti-2 a couple of years ago, and they were right on about this synthetic's really good qualities.

Thats what it's all about shakey legs and I learned about OPTI 2 from BushBunny right on here myself and have never looked at another oil, gas additive since . Great product that addresses many things . Amsoil sabre is another that gets mentioned too .
