Sebago pike
« on: Feb 13, 2019, 08:13 PM »
Howdy all
Looking for some insight on the pike patterns in a huge lake like Sebago. Don't want the secret spots, more generalization of where you run into them on the big lake.... i.e. shallo?, near weeds? Over open deep water? Or nearby structure,  almost like togue? I know its not a popular subject but I  see you run into them occasionally on the lake.
Thank you all...

If you want to fish for pike you shouldnt be fishing on Sebago. The fish ive seen and heard about being caught are the size of pickerel. Drive 45 mins more north and go to the Andro or Sabbatus or further to the Belgrade lakes.

Right now only the little ones are shallow . The next few weeks you will see the big ones heading shallow to spawn. I would try just outside of shollow coves out in deeper water 10 -30 feet . Mostly right on bottom . It's such a big body of water I think there spead out quite a bit so the fishing isn't very productive.

I get one or two every time out. Biggest through the ice is 7lbs. I did get a flag about a month ago and had a monster on. I thought it was bottom at first until the line switched to the other side of the hole and the fish swam by. A big ole' gator. I then felt the fish release and thought it snapped my line until it started peeling line again. It ended up being a 16" salmon with teeth marks all over it. It most likely wasn't going to make it (Looked like hamburger), but you cant keep salmon on Sebago so I cut it off at the hole. The salmon had swallowed the shiner and then the pike smashed the salmon and was holding it in its mouth when I started pulling the line in. I have been fishing in 6' to 15' of water. All pike in Sebago need to be killed. I have heard they will eat everything but this was an eye opener for me. Every pike I have caught since has been left on the ice for the birds.
Can't catch em on your couch.
