Fairhaven Bay
« on: Jan 29, 2019, 08:12 AM »
Anyone ever haul out here? What type of freeze does it take for this place to safely freeze over? The spot brings a ton of intrigue but obviously a lot of safety concern as well.. Would love to hear from anyone who's made it out on the ice here in years past

I have never fished it but my buddies do, my only reason for not is the effort required to get your stuff out there, sounds like it’s a mile walk w gear through the woods and a PIA

Walk out there is not bad I would assume it’s not ready yet. Takes a lot to freeze up usually when most of my local spots are 10+ inches I’ll take a drive out to fish it.

3 trips out there last year and have been skunked every time. Guy that brought me out there showed me pictures of the prior weekend with 10+ fish over ten pounds

I'm not surprised.. only fished this place open water a handful of times but it's left me both amazed and scratching my head at times. When you walk in to hit the ice what side do you walk in from? and when other places have 10"+, what will you find here?

I walk in from the canoe access on 117. When I went last year I found 5-6 inches but the river itself was prob 3-4. Could see there was lots of foot traffic on the ice so I made my way out. Usually try and get out there with someone else for safety.

Whenever I hear Fairhaven I think of the Voyager series on the Holodeck.

I live in the midwest now but have fond memories of fishing in New England as a kid.

Their in there but you could catch one faster from snip.  Better than that the bass there are massive.

Haven't fished there in a while.  But when I lived in Wayland, fished it all the time.  As mentioned, when I had 10" at Heards, I knew Fairhaven "should" be safe.  I always walked up the left side heading in.  Have gone through on that side once, and it was only knee deep.  Would hit the bay, take a left, and walk 150-200 yards up.  Some big pike in there, but it can be slow.  The bass there are the real treat.  To save a headache, hand auger is best.  Fire up a gas auger, you're probably going to meet a local officer.  The rich folks don't want to watch you have a good time.  Especially if they can hear it...

From  Snip?
Are we thinking the same pond? I grew up right next to that pond I haven't seen a pike out of there in 25 years at least. Very intrigued if still a possibility...

If it's down the road from another great bass spot that you can only fish from shore on a causeway then yup.  As for their existence we only know what we know right?
