Best Finds on the Ice
« on: Jan 18, 2019, 12:37 PM »
Anyone ever stumble upon anything extra while out there? Tackle? Gear? I've found an an entire jig box but there were no fisherman to be found. Full intent to give it back but at that point they are just going to go to waste!

Used to go and pick up trash on the ice the day after a perch derby was held each year on a near by lake. Found lots of trash and some treasure too. Picked up a nice Sony am/fm radio one time. And your right, I would have gladly returned it to the owner, but there was no one else on the lake. Guess that's payment for my clean up service... :P

The only thing I've ever found is a used cheap jig lol. Not the type of thing you go from shanty to shanty trying to find the owner for.

I found an entire double sided box of flies once, the bottom side was worthless as it had been floating for a good time I assume. The top side was good though, gave them to a buddy that fly fishes

When I was a kid we always brought our black lab on the ice with us. One time he came back with a bag of jigs.

Another time Rick at Apps found one of those old dome tents when we were fishing together. I still have that.

I found a brand new boat cushion on the ice too.

I have also found a $20 bill on the ice, blew right by me from the next group over. It was suspiciously rolled into a tight coil

They must’ve been prepping it to protect a rod tip or something  ;)

I remember my brother picked up a bag of weed that was blown down the ice towards us.  Probably ruined our neighbors day.

A $20 bill, a 6-pack of budweiser, various tip-ups, and a pair of needle nose pliers.

All in the same day? That's a great find all ya needed to bring out was an auger and some minnows and you were all set. Full refund on the bait too!

Several years ago I found a Vexilar, , complete with case and light at a lake's edge while getting on the ice.  Threw it on my sled and walked out to my spot and fished.  Sometime later, a station wagon came  roaring down the back road.  A fellow jumped out and quickly walked out to me and asked if I had found a fish finder.  I responded that if the one on my sled was his, the answer is YES.  Fellow went back and got his gear and came out and fished near me.  Using his Vexilar, I caught over 50 keepable crappie and he many more.

Last  winter on Long Pond, Chenango Co., I lost my cell phone on my way off the ice.  several days later, I got a phone call from a guy who said he found it and it still worked.

BOTTOM LINE- PUT YOUR NAME, ADDRESS, AND PHONE # ON YOUR GEAR.  YOU MIGHT JUST LOSE SOMETHING AND GET IT BACK!
