I hear they are driving trucks on the lake now, is that true?
There were trucks on Schroon this morning. 14" of hard ice.
It was a brutal first experience ice-fishing the lake. Two hours of howling wind, 4 degrees, and no sleep so we packed it in... but I will be back.  8)

Is/will there be any potential problems getting on the ice for fisherman not entered in the contest (i.e. areas of the lake that will be off limits to non-contestants)??  I hope to fish Schroon Sat or Sun but can't do the whole day so I probably won't enter the contest.

No problem you can get on the ice no prob but there will be a lot of people up there. I say a lot now but if there is a major storm it may keep people away.

They pay 1st,2nd,3rd for pike,lake trout,and salmon.There is also a 25$
prize for the biggest perch.Every hour there are random door prizes drawn. The weigh in is at the Schroon Lake fish and game club, and thats where you can check to see if you won a door prize. Both days there will be guy's with flags on their snowmobiles and 4 wheelers. If you have a fish you think might score just wave them down and they will take your fish in for you.Don't even have to leave the ice. After a long day on the ice don't forget to stop by Flannagans for more cold ones and awesome chicken wings.

Jager61 Pay the 12$ anyway if you catch a salmon it could be worth 500$.
Last few years there haven't been many caught.A keeper would have one last year!

The director of the derby picked up the entry tickets from FISH307 this morning.
He said you can now get tickets at Flannagans.  Because of the distance involved he did not want us to
be selling anymore.  I think it was a mistake but thats what they wanted.
ANY WAY FISH307 WILL BE OPEN UNTIL 6:30 ON FRIDAY NIGHT AND WILL REOPEN AT 4:30AM ON SATURDAY TO ACCOMODATE AS MANY AS WE CAN FOR BAIT AND SUPPLIES

GOOD LUCK TO ALL AND PLEASE BE SAFE

We fished fri, sat, and sunday and had no luck. Well I mean I had no luck, but my buddie iced a  24" laker.  We  came in by the boat launch by stewarts and fished all around the island. We drilled hundreads of holes but could not mark any fish. I still had a good time until the troopers stopped me because they where fishing for dwi's. I spent a ton of money up there in the course of the weekend and being accused of something like driving drunk really pi$$ed me off. Even though the cops are jerks up there I will fish schroon again.

WildBill,
My hunting buddies and I go up every year for the tourney event but never enter. Just enjoy the activity around town but will usually fish Paradox for the peace and quiet...The town is an easy mark that weekend for DeeWee's so other than a good meal at Terrio's we stay up on the hill and do our thing. ope you had fun and come back next year!

Got to question the result's of the tournament. The winning lake trout looked like it was caught 3 weeks ago. One of the salmon was 22" weighing 4.30 and the 1 that was 27" weighing 3.83...Don't think so...One guy weighted 3 fish in 3 different catagorie's..what are the chance's of that...since a lot of people I talked to didn't catch anything...

THIS IS FOR ALL YOU HATERS OUT THERE.   :(   HERE WE GO AGAIN,  EVERY YEAR THERE ARE PEOPLE OUT THERE WHO DIDN'T CATCH THE WINNING FISH OR ANY FISH AND THEY SPRED THE WORD THAT PEOPLE HAD TO CHEAT TO WIN.  THIS ONLY HURTS THE TOURNEMENT AND GIVES IT A BAD NAME.  ALL OF YOU JUST NEED TO GIVE IT UP MAYBE THEN YOU FINALLY UNDERSTAND HOW TO CATCH THOSE BIG FISH, AND UNDERSTAND WHAT FISHING IS ALL ABOUT.   >:(  >:(  >:(

That's funny my buddy and I did catch a lot of fish...Some where weighers, but we decided they weren't big enough to win anything so we released them...Rather catch them another day instead of letting them hang from a porch and rot...But I guess that's fishing to you...

Last year I entered a tournament with my brother. This is why I don't enter tournaments except my home town  tournament and even then last year we caught the guys next to us cheating. They would catch a big fish, hop on their snowmobile to have it measured, come back and hand the bucket off to their buddy who would then hop on the snowmobile and have the same fish measured so the would "tie for 1st and 2nd" to get more money. Luckily we reported them and they were disqualified. It is way too easy to cheat in an icefishing contest. Catch the fish ahead of time and just claim it froze on the lake. That is why I believe all tournments should only measure fish that are brought in alive to help reduce the cheating.

Scales and Tails:
That's not what I meant.  I  meant that in every tournment there is always people out the who say they had to have cheated to win that tournment and I think that is wrong.  Yes,  there are is cheating but, not every fish everwhere.  I release almost all of the fish I catch ice fishing.  Only fish I keep is Salmon.  Catch and Release fishing is the best Management process anybody can take part in.
