Last chance on Simoce - Feb 27 - Video added

With only a few weeks left in the ice fishing season and the shore line ice deteriorating quickly I decided to take a personal day from work (aka sick day) and hit the ice for one last fish. I was pleasantly surprised to find the shore line at my access in great shape and the main lake ice was perfect for walking. With the walking conditions so good I heading for some “mid lake” structure. My first spot of the day was in 22 feet of water just off a hump and quickly produced a few nice fish. Once that hole slowed down I moved about 100’ away and found some more active fish. That is kinda how the day went, fish a hole until it slowed down and move a short distance to find more active fish. Lots of holes were drilled and lots of water was covered. The temperature was a bit deceiving as it was nice and warm out but the wind off of the ice make it feel cold.  This was a great way to end my 2017/18 ice season as I am taking off for a few weeks’ vacation this Friday.

Great way to start the morning

I caught my fish today on two different baits. A white Meegs tipped with a small white/pepper tube and a 2” gulp fry a foot up the line.

This fish coughed up a goby that was still alive. You can see it sitting in the slush next to the hole. That is one active and hungry fish!

The warming temps melted the first few inches of the ice throughout the day. The walk back was a bit harder with the “slush” and walking into the wind. The shore line was also in much worse shape in the morning. Main lake = lots of Ice, shore line = getting worse and worse. Good luck to everyone heading out there, the fish were active and willing to play!!

Nice going randaller.  Thinking I might give it one last shot today if I can get on without getting wet.
