Last Hoorah in WNY???
« on: Mar 03, 2006, 04:36 PM »
I just saw the weather forecast thriugh next week. It's not looking good for our ice fishing.

Date       Conditions            High/Low            Precip.
Wed
Mar 8   Sunny      38°/34°      20%
Thu
Mar 9   Showers      41°/41°      40%
Fri
Mar 10   AM Clouds / PM Sun 50°/42°      20%
Sat
Mar 11   Showers      51°/41°      60%
Sun
Mar 12   Showers      52°/35°      60%

With just getting our ice back on most waters, this looks like early next week may be the last of our ice fishing, on most waters for the season.

This doesn't make me very happy, considering I never really got started(yet).

not sure what part of WNY you are talking aboput but I have been fishing since a week before christmas and as far as the ice looks will be fishing until at least last week of march. The ice around here is getting thicker by the night. I may be a bit of an optimist but I dont think a couple of warm days will ruin the ice.

It's the rain that worries me. Chauatauqua & Silver have been a freeze & melt situation all winter. I don't think alot of these lakes that just locked up with this last cold snap can survive 3 days of temps in the '50's, no lows below freezing, & rain.

The forecast for next weekend in batavia is 56 for both weekend days.  With those temps the ice will be gone around my area.  No biggie after this weekend I will be ready to start trageting the perch in the boat.
All I need is ice and the fish will come.

I'm afraid alot of lakes will be dunzo for good next week.  call me a pessimist but the ice that's there just isn't that good - very crystaline, not good and hard.  yes some lakes have to good stuff.  others don't.  as always this time of year, BE SAFE out there next week boyz..  lots of time next year to be on the hardwater.

Even though we had a lack of ice for much of the season, I am quite satisfied.  Fortunately I was able to get out alot during the early part of the season, and a fair amount the past couple weeks.

I know Silver won't handle any kind of extended warm-up.  There might be ice left at the north end, but no way to get to it.

I'll be tapping my maples on Wednesday   ;)

here in far WNY   cassadaga lake has 8-9" decent ice    Bear Lake probably closer to a foot   weather report I see on accuweather for the 14718 zip looks better than alot of the january forecasts with it being 12 degrees out right now and cold until wed there will be even more ice. Chautauqua will not hold up to any kind of warm up which sucks considering I have only hit it 2 times this year. If my boat hadnt been broken down since July maybe I would let the ice around go unnoticed by me but it is broke and I prefer ice fishing anyways so I will find ice until the day its gone :'(   I realize the end is near but I know it is not here so find some ice and enjoy it till its gone ;D
