UTV ice fishing rigs
« on: Dec 30, 2017, 06:48 PM »
Hey Guys
Just wondering what you guys think safe ice is for a full size UTV with tracks? I think mine weighs in at 1500# dry weight. With full cab and tracks I have to think it’s pushing 2000#.

Also, let’s see some pics of what you all are using for your “ fishing rigs”.
Thanks!!

I don’t take my ranger on anything less than 12” of good ice.

  • Rather be judged by 12 then carried by 6.

To answer your question with that weight i would say miminum 10 inches to be safe.  8 would probably hold but thats figuring 8 everywhere with 10 those thinner spots are 8s instead of 6s

Thanks guys, so my rule of 12” of ice before I take it out sounds more than safe. Light liner I will do my best but I wouldn’t plan my day around using it!!! 😆

I have a Ranger 900XP and it is plenty safe on 6 inches of ice with tires and a full cab on it, weighing in at 1850lbs. If i have the tracks on it, it weighs right around 2000lbs and 8 inches of ice is good. 7 inches of ice alone will hold 2 tons, if you wait all the way till 12 inches of ice to go on, it can hold up to 8 tons. I will drive my full size truck on 10-12 inches no problem.
