Mud Mixer RPM
« on: Jan 10, 2018, 12:10 PM »
Just got one at Christmas I was wondering what speed you guys run at. I know with the drills you run on speed 1 but I can’t see running a higher speed say 400 rpm having a negative effect on the mixer. I have kind of setteled on 300 rpm for now but would like to see what others think.

8" blade on my auger turns around 200 rpm.

Rule of thumb, the larger the hole go slower the on the rpm.

that makes sense its a little odd with the mixer I was just thinking I would approximately match the speed of the standard hammer drill in 1st gear.

I will be drilling some holes with my mud mixer (with a 8” Eskimo bit) this weekend. Will post back with what I come up with.

I run mine on Max(550rpm) with the Nils Power Point head with no issues.  It frigging shreds the ice.  2"/second maybe.  It's just stupid-fast cutting and smooth too.  That's with ZERO down pressure too.  My hands just stabilize the auger and keep it from spinning counter clockwise.  I think an awful lot will depend on what auger you're using and how sharp it is.  Ice Scratcher just found out the hard way that running an auger without a centering point at high speed was a bad idea.

Got out and used the mud mixer today. What a sweet piece of machinery. 300 RPM seem to work best fo me. Drilled about 25-30 holes thru 8” of ice and only used 1/4 of the battery. :o Gas auger will be stuck in the corner of the garage.

I have pretty much stuck around 350 RPM seems to be a fast but controllable speed
