Jigging with Shrimp?
« on: Feb 24, 2006, 11:03 AM »
someone lost a 5# bag of fresh maine hand peeled shrimp out in front of my shop sometime last night and I picked it up this morning. It's got about 200 - 300 nice little shrimp and I the first thing I thought of was tipping my jig with em.  I hear all about using cut bait, anyone ever use these?

I bet they'd work for perch or cusk.  With the right jig, just a tiny bit of scent will get the perch to bite.  And when I lived a bit further south, we used to let shrimp set out all day and use them for catfish, and as far as I can tell cusk are the northern equivalent of an ugly, decaying fish-eating yet disturbingly good tasting fish.
I live my life by one basic tenet: big fish eat little fish.

My father-in-law used to use them for smelt and cusk with very good success.  I believe he once caught a salmon on them.

I'm just here to read what all the experts have to say.
