My dad had his prostate removed a year ago and went for a check up and they found a few cancer cells.  He will be going in for radiation treatment for 30 days.  Looks like I'll be getting the probe at my next check up.  Grandfarther and my Dad have it, so I had better catch it early.  I can't imagine loosing a parent....they are just too young.  Scott my prayers are with you.  The lose has not happened to me yet, but I can only imagine.

I will say it is my take look at the hands on this guy is he a sasquatch his hands are huge my take is that the photo is enhanced.  That is not a brookie caught through the ice I think Hood is right the boat has a net in the background that fish is definatly not ice bound but straight from a test fishery !!!!!!!!!!!!!

Wow, nice fish.  The last time I saw one that size I was fly fishing in a small pond over in the Whites.  Some goofy fella walks by me with a saltwater rod and a big kastmaster made for stripers.  I talked to him a bit a giggled to myself as he walked away. A few minutes later I hear him woopin and hollering and saw what looked to be a big largemouth tailwalking.  This being a hike in trout pond I went over to check it out.  The guy landed a 5 plus brookie out of a pond you could drive a golf ball over.  Needless to say I giggled no more. Big baits big fish I guess.

That picture was actually taken when the biologists first caught the fish this past fall (october maybe?) they caught and tagged some brook trout with radio tags so they could track them. anyways, aparently the fish was 6 lbs. when the biologists first caught the fish and it was 5 1/2 lbs. when the guy caught it through the ice at the end of january, the guy kept the fish to bring to the taxidermists and the radio tag was returned to the biologists.

Here's a 6 lb. 4 oz brookie I mounted for my taxidermy shop that was taken out of a pond on my property here in Indiana. Lake Nipigon strain.

I love painting them. They are such gorgeous fish. That Maine fish apparently had a good amount of natural caroten pigment in it's diet as you can see by the brilliant red/orange.

I live in the midwest now but have fond memories of fishing in New England as a kid.

When I saw that picture and the amazing story about it, I figured b/c it was caught through the ice, it fit the forum.

That thing is a pig!  I think the craziest part about it all is that the fish was radio tagged this past fall, What are the chances it gets caught w/in 3 months on Maines largest lake at 75,000 acres.

This was a quote when the biologist learned it was caught.

"While we were disappointed that Robo-trout was removed from the lake last week, we cannot fault the gentleman for keeping a 6 lb brook trout. Clearly, he was ecstatic over his trophy trout and rightfully so. He did not even realize the fish had been implanted with a radio tag. We did get some very valuable info from the fish this fall and early winter, so we do not consider it a total loss. In fact, our main purpose was to locate possible shore-spawning sites in October and we did track him several days during the spawning/post-spawning window. The gentleman also allowed us to recover the tag, so it can be used again. To be honest, we did not think the chances of catching 4 tagged brook trout in a 75,000 acre lake were very good."

Good luck this weekend!

Met,

That's a d**n sweet brookie you guys got too!  Anything trout over 20" is a nice fish in my book.  That one has a pretty cool story too.  Surviving Pike! :o

I know the one from moosehead was a male and in spawing colors.  If the one you guys got is a female, she probably looks similar to that in the fall, if it's a male, I'm sure he got nice and colorful too.

Wish they would have a Now picture of the Moosehead brookie.  Wonder what he looked like when he was caught through the ice.  Kind of a then/now would be cool.

Either way, all great fish.  I just love seeing trophies.
