I bring my buddy Chez!!! He can turn a frozen lake into swiss cheese in minutes  ;D

Yep and just imagine what he's capable of with all the talkin he does.  LOL  The only extras I bring are bait and gloves.

Not too much, I have some triple, quadruple, on jigs....

But I have been trying to lighten up a lot last few seasons...

On Erie, I do actually take two GPS units..

Sometimes when my 5lb tank is low, I'll bring a 1lb just in case, but I don't consider that extra...

I carry a couple extra batteries for my Milwaukee drill auger and my Milwaukee power source takes care of everything from cell phone to vexilar charging and all my lighting as well. I do have a leatherman tool for any "fixes" on ice which has come in handy more than one time.  I once had to build a flame extender to redirect the pilot flame on to the thermocouple for my big buddy heater from a sardine lid to get me through a trip...

Always have extra line because on some lakes up north never know when I'll get spooled by a pike or lake trout on my panfish rods.

I take so much stuff it would probably be embarrassing to list it all.  Instead, I'll give an example.

This is my gas auger emergency kit:

It is built into a cute little Tupperware container, with everything organized in polyethylene foam, cut to fit. On the top level we find
-Mini ratchet
-Spark plug socket
-Auger blade screws
-8mm wrench for blades
-Silver washers (part of auger attachment)
-Brass-looking spacer thing (part of auger attachment)
-Spring clip (also part of auger attachment)

Then on the back side we find
-Stubby screwdriver
-Spark plug
-Spark plug gapper
-Collar bolt
-Hex keys

And tucked into one side a spare auger blade:

Just another thing I take and hope to never use, like my ice spikes or my spare clothes in the truck.
Happiness is a wife who can outfish you.

Back up? No need I slept at a Holiday Inn last night besides I also fish with a Vexilar!

Truly no back up on close to home trips but when driving over 15-20 minutes usually a back up gas auger and back up heat source if possible.

Maybe a back up case of brew!
