Tip up markers

How many of you guys mark where your tip ups are when you have them spread out while fishing ?

I've been marking mine with 2 foot sections of 1 x 1s or 2 foot sections of broom handle with reflective tape around the top for years and hav'nt had one mowed down yet. Not only that but the markers make it MUCH easier to find your boards at night when the snows blowing and drifting.

Every year I see or hear about dudes on the ice that don't have thier tip ups marked and they get run over by a sled , ATV or truck. I also from time to time hear guys say they have lost thier tip ups because they get drifted over and they can't find them.
Though it sucks to lose or have a board run over I have no sympathy for those that that happens to if thier tip ups are'nt marked somehow. Sorry guy but not I nor anyone else that I know has X-ray vision.

Marking your boards is an easy and cheap thing to do. Plus markers don't take up much room and weigh next to nothing. Like I said an old broom handle cut to a shorter length works well. Old arrows do too. Adding a little reflective tape is about the only expense you run into and even that costs less than a dozen shiners.
It's no garuntee you won't have your boards run over but your odds of not having them run over or lost are much greater when you mark them.

I mark them so do not loose one especially in deep snow. I went to hardware store and got fiberglass posts 36 inches long and maybe 1/2 inch in diameter for 69 cents each. I made flags for the top out of old rags, (found yellow or orange easiest to see but not confuse with my tip up flag) for the top. I just stick them in the snow at the hole and all set. Light weight, easy to use, highly visible and cheap. Besides my wife finds them convenient when she wants to grab something to beat me with for being on the ice all weekend instead of home working on our relationship. ;D
Good thing about prisons- they reduce the potential number of fisherman on the ice!

I mark mine with a good piece of 2 x 4 in the deeper snow.  The 2X4's have some nails and screws sticking out too so if my tipup gets run over by an ATV or truck hopefully they will end up with a flat tire.  With little or no snow cover I usualy mrk them with 5 gallon buckets, bait buckets, or whatever else I have with me.
