Yesterday was a bad day. I pulled a tick off of my dog, and ate a bug when I went outside for a smoke in the afternoon. It's just around the corner...

Hopefully the tick population will be less this year, given the drought last season. Only time will tell.

I don't know much about ticks but I would assume that a very mild winter would have a much lesser impact on them.

Permethrin, the best stuff for ticks. Spray it on, let it dry and any tick that touches it curls up and dies. Good stuff. I treat all my fishing and hunting gear with it and it's even good for several washes.

Spot on,even better is to soak your clothes in it I bought some permethrin at tractor supply. You can also buy clothing with it injected in it that will last for 40 or more washings.

Great on ticks but, use only on clothes and gear not on skin.

yes, not for skin... and not for cats either.

A good way to help with a tick problem in an area is to make tick bombs. Take a bunch of cotton balls and soak them with Permethrin and let them dry. Then stuff several in a cardboard tube from toilet paper or you can get a few out of a paper towel cardboard tube. Then just spread them around to areas that mice can get into. They use the cotton to line there nests and then they walk around gathering ticks that get killed as soon as they get back to the nest. Good way to thin the tick population in an area since mice are the 1st primary carriers of ticks.

did several of my turkey clothing last season ...seems cheaper in the long run then the spray that you have to apply yearly and last only 6 wks/6 washings

skeeters sure are huge and hungry already here in the great lakes. it's been too warm for ice for over 7 weeks in my area and flooding.

so it's looking good for the insect world this year.

if you are looking for a treatment on your clothes check out permethrin made by sawyer. it is sold at cabelas too.

Diehard, that looks pretty cool, but $8 to $10 an item. I'd have to see how effective it is, if it is still strong and effective a year later and after many washes, I would think it was a great idea just because you don't have to worry about it. Thanks for the link, gonna have to check into this. With the spray on stuff, all I gotta do is drop a tick onto a treated garment and it will roll over and squirm itself to death. Are your insect shield clothes that effective?

Elimitick is another option...but the clothing is expensive and its limited selection lead me to discover Insect Shield ...this way you can select several outfit/combinations of the camo patterns that work for your area ..even some hiking items if need be ....used it last season seem to work ...I had been using the Sawyer products for 10 years with great success .
