DEC Roads in the ADK Park
« on: Mar 10, 2017, 07:07 AM »
Anybody have any reports of how much snow is hanging on to the seasonal and DEC roads in the park (any areas really)? I have some spots I like both hard water now, and open water in a few weeks and I would love to know what the roads are looking like. Hiking a mile to the lake is one thing, hiking 6 extra miles along the road is a whole different thing.

Im not sure how much is on the seasonal roads, however my family has a camp up in long lake. I was up there this past weekend and most of the snow has melted with crusted piles found in shaded areas and along the roadways still. Our dirt/gravel access road was in fair condition, but definitely starting to really soften up in spots. Watch out for ice patches where the runoff has accumulated as well. With the cold temps recently and cold over the weekend, what has been melted during the day has been freezing at night creating some slick areas on the roadway. Hope that helps a bit.
