Great Pond, Franklin (Pic Update)
« on: Feb 17, 2017, 07:37 AM »
Anyone else on here fish it there this Winter?

I’ve fished it three time now. May try it this afternoon and actually set some tip-ups.

So far I’ve caught some nice white perch. Pretty slow in general though.

One day, I dug more than 25 holes form shallow to 30’ of water. Read 1 fish. The other days just a couple fish and bites. Most of the action was in the deepest area.

I’m really looking for the crappies that were put in there a few years ago. I’ve heard some have been caught. Any of you guys see any crappies in there?

Went there yesterday. Lots of slush under knee deep snow. Got my snow shoes out. They are just hiking snow show, not large. Might give it another wack today. I did talk to a someone that caught  acrappy on a trap there last week, before the azz deep snow came.

It is not ideal habitat, I think.... But I caught 3 year classes over the past two days.  [1 around 15 + one about 13.] ~~[1 @ 10]~~~ [3 @ 6-7]..... Talked to a guy today that caught some 3-4”.  That makes 4 year classes. I think they will get pretty good sized in there, but never in large numbers. No cover and large predators.

Sound like they have spawned successfully since they we illegally stocked.

Also caught some nice wp and a bass.

Today there were wet over 40 traps out there. Never saw a double the whole time I was there. Lots of NO FLAGS time for everyone. I’ll post a pic later before I have them for dinner.

Been there 6 times now. Only 2 skunks!!! Pretty much slow as death. Nice fish though.
This was today’s BIG haul:

Nice ones!! Sounds like it may become a decent crappie fishery.
