bobbers
« on: Feb 06, 2006, 12:42 PM »
I have awalys used jig poles without reals just the two sticks poking out of the handle to wrap the line around which made letting more line out when you have a northern on pne lb test hard and keeping the line from tangling up when you are pulling it out og the hole hard expessely when you have a kid in the shack. but it makes adjusting the bobber and getting to the same depth every time easy. Last year i bought a pole with a real and i hate it because no matter who i set up the bobber i eather cant real it in or it tangles or i cant get back to the same depth or i cant change the depth easly. how do other people set up there poles so they can real them in. I tie a short piece of line to the mane line at the depth i want then put a small bead than a bobber but sometimes the line moves and other times i cant move it quickly to get the depth  i want for now i went back to using the old poles

try using slip bobbers. you return to the same depth every time. you can find them at almost any bait shop or at wally world.

Hi  I use  tiny red&white bobbers
first  you clip a deph sounder to your lure  & then when you hit bottem  you bring it up a few inchs & put a very small rubber band  so the bobber will tell you if you get a strike   then when you get it to where  you want
it then you allways can fine clip it   smaller  then when you do that  you bring it up  & bait  it up & put it down your ice hole    then when you see your bobber move set the hook

ps hope i helped you

When using a reel, which is seldom for me, I use a permanent marker and mark a small section of line above the reel.  This way I can reset to the exact same depth time after time.  Reels are overrated IMO.  I can fight a fish a whole lot better while
handlining, slipping him line when he runs and turn his head up the hole easier.  If
something works for ya why change?

most of the time when i jig i am with my three year old in my portable shack so i dont have room to pull up the line when i am in 30 feet of water.  thats the biggest reason i got a real

I'm with RedWolfUSAF on this one. Ice Busters are quite possibly the easiest slip bobbers you will ever find. I dont use the string knot that comes with them, I use a rubber stop which I find easier to handle.  HOWEVER! I'm still partial to spring bobbers.... especially when the bites are lite.

glty!

you can find them at any local bait shop. They are a small egg shaped rubber ball hanging on a folded over piece of wire. I couldn't locate an accurate picture. They are usually different colors for different line size. there is usually 10 of them attached to a plastic ring. Ask the shop keeper. He/she should know what you are talking about. I like them because they are rubber which gives them better grip and they're not a knot that can loosen-up after a while.
