Ice thickness hmmm no guess but yesterday raymond beach had ice a ways out. off lakehurst which is off 302 towards whites bridge was all open water. Today it was frozen over as far as you could see towards fry island so things are starting to tighten up.

If we get 6-12, and the predicted warm weather next week, not a chance.

There is no chance of the lake being safe enough for such a huge derby by then with white caps in Jordan Bay???  I can't imagine 15in of ice forming between now and then.....it's going to have to be darn cold.

10 below tonight.....but a foot of snow and 40 mph NE winds won't help........I'll be winning the derby with a pike :P

How you gonna keep it alive for 2 weeks????   lol j/k.   When I was checking the lake yesterday, I stopped to grab a bite at Sabattus Market and there's a picture of an 18 - 20 # / 41" long one that was caught and released last week from the pond. The potential of a winning fish is definately a possibility.

Sorry fellas....but I can't let a nasty old pike take home that boat. ;D ;D  I am going to have to head off to BC next week to catch a 40lb togue to seal the deal.  Does anyone know the mailing address for the weigh in station on Raymond beach???  A large cooler with aerators will be arriving via overnight FEDEX on Saturday of the derby with my name on it. :D

I was just standing at the Sebago South Station boat launch and there is ice however, the ripple coming down the lake is not helping matters.  Even if the tourney goes state wide there still may be many parts of the lake frozen enough to fish.  My group of fishing buddies and I will do all we can to not let a pike win the Sebago tourney.

Just my 2 cents  sebago is a togue derby and should stay a togue derby or trout. Open it statewide but be a trout species derby.

i tend to think that the nature of the derby is to reduce the number of lake trout in sebago. not the rest of the state.  ::)

Since the spirit of derby was to reduce togue in sebago, the derby will now serve to reduce some 'bait fish hogs' species, namely the illegally introduced pike.

As far as reducing the trout population species statewide, fall stocking programs are specifically done to bolster winter fishing catch rates.  In short, they have been put there for the taking anyway.

The derby officials have recognized that salmon and bass are more precious - they generate a lot of tourism revenue, which is why there are no categories for them.

The rules appear to be well though out for a state-wide derby.

My work route took me by Jordans bay today and yes the bay looks frozen but i didnt see a single soul out there let alone a vehicle. I'd be dog gone careful and no it wont hold 5000 people or all the vendors that they claim will be set up there if the derby holds. My vote is for a 20-22lb pike to take it all and yes OH YES i will be the one giving it a ride in my cooler down to the way station. To heck with the tougue bring on the GATORS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! ;D ;D
PS if anyone would like me to share my secret winning fishing spot with you, you can send me a check for $5000 dollars and i will be glad to tell you :-*

I checked on the ice again this morning at the South end launch and it has doubled in length, almost all the way out to Indian Island.  I think Sunday's storm is NOT going to help.

Just to keep you up to date on the ice making progress this blustery Sunday morning.  There is ice as far as the eye can see from the boat launch extending all the way out to Indian Island.  There was a brave sole jigging near shore this morning and he said there was a solid 3 inches.
