Hummingbird ice-35?
« on: Dec 22, 2016, 02:38 PM »
I'm newer to ice fishing and I've been researching different flashers. I keep comparing vexilar to marcum to hummingbird. They all seem to have good reviews along with a few negatives mixed in. I understand it all comes down to personal preference. I'm leaning toward the hummingbird ice-35. Are there any solid reasons why I should not go with the hummingbird?

for an entry flasher an Ice 35 is the way to go.I own a marcum lx-5 and an ice 35 that my girlfriend uses. I bought the Ice 35 for her to uses since it comes with a wide and narrow beam and a IR button to reject noise from other sonars near by. You get the most bang for your buck with an Ice 35 than most other flashers in that price range.

I've owned the Ice-35 going on four years. I've had zero issues and it was a great bang for my bucks

Thanks everyone.. I did go ahead and buy the ice-35. It was on sale for $299 and it has a $35 mail in rebate. I couldn't pass it up. I set it up and tried the demo mode. I've been reading the instructions. So far I think I'll like it. It seems easy enough to use and seems well built. Now I just need some ice to form here in ny and get some good use of it.

Not sure if you have heard about the support cable  that comes with it for the transducer, but don't bother using it. It makes the transducer point slightly sideways which you don't want. Supposedly it was included to get around an old Vexilar patent.

Enjoy your new flasher  :)

Also be very mindful of the selection dial. I have a few friends that have had them break off while traveling on the ice. It isn't a cheap repair either.

Good to know. Mine actually did not come with a support cable.

Ditto -  busted my top  control know off - $125 flat rate repair.  they would send a replacement because it is considered an internal part.   I ve had no issues with performance.   works great

X2. Throw that support cable away.

Also, on sale for 299 is not a deal. That's what they retail for and all Humminbird flashers come with the mail in rebate. You didn't get a deal at all, you paid full price. I'm not saying this to be rude, I'm just letting you know.

I would return that thing and get a Marcum VX-1i.  The Marcum is far better than the Humminbird 35, at the same price point.

The zoom on the Humminbird just blows up the picture 2x.  The Marcum uses a 5' bottom lock, which I prefer.

Marcum comes with a carry case, it's a $50 option on the Humminbird 35.

The Humminbird comes with a dual beam transducer, but I have a hard time using that feature, since I can't get the gain to find my jig and not washout the display with other interference in wide angle.
