Vertigo from Sonar?
« on: Jan 19, 2017, 09:03 PM »
Guys just got home from a RIDICULOUS trip to Mille Lacs.  Bro in law had 8 fish over 25" it was insane.  I had several 17-18", a 20", a few 23" and a 25" tank and missed a monster at the hole (Pics to come)

That said, since I got home I'm really out of it/dizzy.  Anyone gotten this from starting at a screen all day?

Sounds like an awesome trip, maybe you shouldnt spin your head in circles to keep up with the flasher...

I can see how it could happen.

Just make sure you don't have co poisoning from your shack. Just had one 20 year old girl die and her 3 friends in the ice from sleeping in a shack overnight.  Happened a few miles from me.

I fish a lot....I catch a little.

One big advantage to a graph type sonar is not having to stare at a spinning color wheel.

Weird - Was Ice Trolling all day no Carbon Monoxide

I only had one celebratory drink.  Can't be that

Carbon Monoxide in your house?

Did ya get dizzy before ya got home?

Did a squirrel build a nest in your chimney while you were gone?

Barometric pressure?? Lol

Seriously though sometimes when I'm out in the cold all day and my body acclimates to that cold, warming up can make me feel a little dizzy/sick feeling. Usually starts when I get into a nice warm home after being on the ice for several, several hours. Eventually goes away and I go fishing again.

I always think to myself if I bought a Flasher this is what would happen to me. Flashing lights can't be good for you.

not vertigo. That would happen as you stare at the screen if you did get it that bad. Some times I get pretty beat up out on the ice. Sometimes I just wanna stow my gear toss the fish in the freezer and take a nap. Hopefully that's all it is. Where you out on the ice early and maybe missed a lot of sleep? How long has it been going on? And for how long do the dizzy spells last? Are you on any heart meds?

On a serious note... you might have a subluxation in your upper neck (vertebra not lined up properly).  These can cause vertigo symptoms very easily.  Check in with your local chiropractor.

probably the hormone thyroxine. it is released when you are cold to boost your metabolism in order to warm you up. when you get home, this hormone is probably still circulating in your bloodstream. i feel those symptoms just like you.

I'm blaming pressure spike.  Got better today a little but it went from like 28 to 29.5 in an hour yesterday.  Probably sinus.  My ears seem weird and I clearly didn't drink enough water

I just got back from a SD trip. We fished from dark to dark for 3 days and I was using a Helix 5 set on sonar mode. I was starting to get the brain warp from staring at screen. The low light periods were strange as I had to adjust backlight down. The screen was so bright in the mornings and evenings it bothered me. Hope all is ok.

My god, here I have been worried about is the ice safe, where are the fish going to be, will I have to anchor my shanty down, will I have the right jigs, bait, and all the other things to catch some gills, and now I have to worry about vertigo? Well that is just great! >:( Just kidding hope you never have to go through it again! Had a bad sinus infection around Christmas and maybe an inner ear deal as well. Was taking a shower closed my eyes to wash the soap off my face and had no sense of ballence had to grab the safety bar to keep,my footing! Have never had that happen on the ice watching a flasher for hours. Anyway good luck to you!
Keep it safe! JDL

I'm just getting over a case of what my ENT called Labyrinthitis . Started 1st part of December. Believe me when I say Vertigo is no joke and I know what your going thru. I was on the ice today for the 2nd time this year and the only way I could navigate was with a walking stick for balance. I feel for you Buddy.

Inner ear infection is one probable cause.
I got it years ago and still have it today, but I'm used to it.

Mine only affects me when I lie down and stand up, and ONLY if I do so while turned to the left.
Mine is known as "prone position vertigo. It can linger for a long time or stop suddenly on its own.

Still, it's an inner ear thing.
