Pretty limited size wise what is gonna fit in my Suv.   But I do have a roof rack so I'm toying with the idea of strapping it to that.   Driving a nissan xterra.  Thanks.

I'd be concerned with the tent getting destroyed by flapping in the wind.

W/seats down my 2 man Frabill fits just fine in my 'terra...I wouldn't strap it to my roof rack ...between the hassle and sure to be some wind damage to the shelter.

If the shanty doesn't fit in the suv i would look at getting one of those cargo racks that go into your hitch.Getting a flipover on and off the roof does not seem fun.

I agree getting the shack off the roof of an suv would not be fun. But you can transport your shack on the roof if need be. I would suggest you get the fitted cover to make it aerodynamic and protect it from the elements. There is a little geo metro like 4 cylinder car that bombs around Oshkosh with a flip over strapped to the roof. I've seen him travel at highway speeds with what looked like no trouble. Also a buddy of mine strapped a large 3 man to the roof of his jeep for awhile. It wasn't ideal but it got the job done.

I just use a cargo carrier in my receiver hitch. the thing about doing that thou is that make sure the house is not close to your exhaust pipe as I have heard of sleds of houses melting from the heat of the exhaust. I put a z bar on my carrier to get it up and away from the pipe. have used this when I had my old otter houses and now plan to use it when I haul my new Clam Nanook this year.

I take the seats out of my Honde CRV and I can get a Clam Yukon inside. Fits like a glove, I also put in a small otter sled for extra gear, get great gas mileage and I can go anywhere the big 4 x 4 can go as I have winter tires on this little thing.

I'm with these guys. I roof top an 11.5 ft fishing kayak on my Subaru Forester and it isn't too hard. I prop one end on the back and then slide it up from the back end but you can't do that with a sled, it isn't long enough. You would end up having to lift it up there and those sleds seem to get heavier at the end of a day after dragging it all over frozen creation. When I got my Subaru I measured the back cargo area to make sure my clam would fit back there, and it does with room to spare... gotta look ahead ;)

Thanks for the advice guys.   I'm a pretty strong guy so lifting 100 pounds over my head isn't a problem.  That said it wouldn't be easy after all the lunkers I usually have burning out my arms (I'm mostly joking).  Thanks again

It's not so much the weight, but the bulk. With a buddy it would be easier but on your own, I bet it would wear thin pretty quick. Then there's the wind catching the tent section and doing damage.... :-\

Without a fitted cover, I would be concerned about wear and tear on the fabric from flapping in the wind.

I tried useing  a hitch cargo rack thing on the back of my wrangler.  It got the shack all full of that dirty slush stuff you find in the mudflaps.  I only did it a few times not really worth it to me.   I did have  a cover but I couldn't stand it being covered in salt and sand from the road.

wind will do a number to your tent and windows. Did to mine.  If it can't fit in the trunk best bet really is to get a trailer for it, or just accept that you are going to wear out the tent fabric really fast.

I have had to put mine in the roof on my old explorer before. If you have a fitted cover and strap it down right it is not an issue.  I fit mine between the roof racks and crossed the straps (like an x).

I've run my fish trap guide on a hitch hauler behind my GMC Yukon for 3 seasons now.  Very few issues with it getting dirty.  Bigger shacks like my buddy's 3 man frabill tend to block my taillights from being visible, but I have a set of magnetic safety lights I can put on the hitch hauler if need be.

I put a two man flip on the roof of my fusion for years and it sucked. The wind became a major factor of how i parked my car, the straps had to go through my windows and i had to wrap the whole thing in a tarp to protect it, but thr wind still managed to tear a couple of edges. Id go with the hitch hauler 100 Xs befoee id haul on my roof
