Ice fishing spear

Going to try spearing pike this year and wanted comments on spears. Balance? Price? Homemade? Length? Points on spear? Also best way to keep spear from being damage in the throwing process.

I decided to go with a inexpensive ne to start with. Hate to ruin a real nice spear right off the bat. Thanks for the info.
