Found new old line
« on: Dec 15, 2016, 03:46 PM »
When I was going through my  storage closet in my basement I found three spools of Trilene Cold Weather line and when I checked the date on them one was 2013 and two were 2009.  They're brand new in the package, never in sunlight, and stored at an average maximum temperature of 75 degrees.  When I unspooled some line the twist looks identical to line that was made in 2016.  I know line is cheap but do you guys think it's any good?

Give it a try, you'll find out after you set the hook a few times.

Tie a jig on and give pull,if it's bad it will break at the knot.

4 pound, it doesn't seem to break too easily and the twists don't seem any worse than the new stuff.

Thanks, I'll give that a try later.

That's not old at all, my uncle owns a gas station/bait shop in central michigan and he has a few spools of trilene from the late 80's-early 90's still on the rack for sale in pristine packaging lol. Needless to say he sells more minnows than he does line.

It will be fine, haven't changed line in 2 years. Keep poles in closet where dark and cool.

Its good and I like that line. If you run your hand down line and it feels sticky..not smooth its shot (old timer rule)

Chriss, in a situation such as this, always follow Wires Corollary to Fishings Rule of Old Line : if 4 lb., catch no ,gills over 3 1/2 lb., if 6 lb. test, no perch over 5 1/2 lb. well mebbe 5 3/4 lb. but none bigger than that! too risky, LOL wire, Merry Christmas all.

HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA, that's great advice but what about a Perch that's 3 5/8 pounds on 4 pound line? LOL  Merry Christmas Wire.
