Lowrance float depth adjustment cord
« on: Dec 03, 2016, 06:07 AM »
Is that cord your supposed run through the transducer really necessary that comes with ice pack.  i can see where it does take some strain off lifting transducer but kinda pain have that extra cord plus sometimes transducer ends up cocked at angle below water cause of it.  Been using it 2 years like that but really would like to do away with it without risking damaging transducer pulling it up directly

I've never used it and have been just fine. I'd say NO also.

humminbird had to add the extra cable too, so they wouldn't get sued.
you shouldn't have to add any thing to the transducer cable to keep it safe.

would be best if you got rid of the float too. make an arm or buy one to hold you transducer so it's not down in the hole so much and makes landing fish much easier! there are after market arms for it and then you use a stop washer on the cable to keep it from slipping in the arm.
i read how vex uses an eye bolt for some of their flasher cases. i like the folding arms for sure.

when i used my hb ice-55 (retired the pos) many here said just to put the ducer under the plate of ice so it would aim straight down and not hit the edge of the ice to aim it wrong.
having it float means the wind or cable will bring the float to the side of the hole, this interferes with it seeing correctly.
keeping it centered is what is best and only an arm can do that.

I have a Showdown Finder and the transducer just hangs out my bag and just below the bottom of the ice at the edge of my hole. It does have an arm but it is plastic and I have broken one already. Someone was making aluminum replacement arems but I never bought one.

Cable won't pull out but over time as it flexes against the hard plastic of the transducer it will wear and fail right at that point. Often the failure is internal and you can't even see it unless you strip the insulation carefully on a post mortem. The guys I see hole hoppin' swingin' their 'ducers like they're walkin' a dog have to go through one at least every couple, three seasons.  ::)  Or maybe they just sell it to some poor schmuck and buy the latest greatest.

Just like any appliance or power tool that gets moved around a lot. Sooner or later it fails and 999.9 times out of 1000 it's the power cable and the failure is most often right at the plug or where it enters the tool. Your transducer is no different. I know some of them have been re-enforced with Kevlar and such but it's still a concern.

That's why the extra cord, not so anyone wouldn't get "sued", just to take the abuse off the transmission cable and place it on something more durable and easily replaceable.

Y'all will do as you please. I'm just sayin'.....
To fish or not to fish? That's a stupid question!

I have always used mine. I just sheath it to the transducer cable. (It's slightly shorter to take the strain off the transducer cable) I never have used a float.  I just let out the amount of cable I need. Cable is tight against side of the hole with no float in the way. Sheathing keeps everything tidy and tangle free.
