Lets See your Set Up
« on: Nov 10, 2006, 06:44 PM »
I am getting myself ready for some ice fishing by organizing my gear into my sled. I remember seeing some pictures last year of some very well organized sleds.  Can I see some pictures of your rigs :) Thanks

Here's my sled, updated and improved (?) for the upcoming season. There's just enough room for two augers, a cooler for bait, a tackle bag (under the augers) 10 tipups, 4 or so jig rods, cleats, a five gallon pail for the vexilar/ seat, a small folding chair, cleats, and even a scoop or possibly 2 :o ;D.

Here's my father's wonderful invention for holding tipups. 4 inch, light duty (Not sch. 40)  drainage pipe cut into 10 inch or so sections. Ten of them fit perfectly into a milk crate, and there is some space left over for PVC jigging rod holders. Works great with Polar tipups, and I assume it would work for others, although I have not tried. Keeps everything nice and neat, not tangled. 8)

Yeah that was a huge game, the guys are headed down to Kingston next Friday. I'll be there as usual, I don't play football though, shotput, discus, and longjump is my thing. 8)

And you're very welcome for the tipups holder idea.

i didn't need a sled, it was all there already even beer when I was lucky.  ;D Me and my buddy had a good setup last year, in his jet sled we put our vex's, power auger, cooler, rods, tipups. That PVC holder for the rods and tipups is an awesome idea.

pour me another one, I'm finished with the other one

Here are a couple pics of my Clam 2000 and the sled I built last year. Sled works great behind a human and behind a snowmobile.

Here's my sled/shelter combo I built for days when it's not too cold and you just need a little bit of a windbreak, and a heater.  Someone commented last year that it looks like a 2-hole sh*tter on ice!  Think I'll add a toilet seat to it this year just to hear the comments!  ;D

Happy to Share tbird!  I have some detailed pics during the building process if you're interested PM me.   I wanted to make it as light as possible, and to be able to hold all my "stuff" with a minimum number of bungee cords.  With the downhill ski's it pulls really easily, yet I make the front like a tobaggon (if) we should ever get a couple of feet of snow it would float across that.
Not shown in the pics is a tubular metal hitch that I attach when I want to take the snowmobile.   I also included a pic that shows the inside with just the heater. (and battery pack with iPod)  ;D
I can sit on the center section and jig, and the warm air rises up out of open lids.  Before someone asks... no it doesn't get too hot, although I do have a sheet metal shield that I slide under the burner for safety reasons.

Guess I'm out of practice at posting from Photobucket, and see my last post just has the links.
I'll try again...

One more... my flip-up shanty for the days when it's to cold for just the windbreak.
At 75lbs itt turned out to be a bit heavier that I wanted, so I'm going to give this one to my friend and see if I can build a lighter one this year.

Trapr...
The plastic pipe that you used ,is it plumbing pipe and how does it do in the wind?

Also, what kind of plastic cover is that and did you sew it or glue it or use some other means to hold it together?
 Thanks...Winchester 88
Has the rain a father?
Or who has begotten the drops of dew?
From whose womb comes the ice?
And the frost from heaven, who gives it birth?
By the breath of God ice is given and the broad waters are frozen.
The waters harden like stone and the surface of the deep is frozen.

It's just plain old schedule-40  The whole frame was less that 5 bucks.  I does fine in the wind, shakes a little but never felt like it was going to come apart.   Here are some additional pics showing the frame with all the sections that are glued together, and a closer look at the clamps I made out of PVC pipe.    Setup and teardown is easy, and it all stows inside the sled.

I sewed up the cover myself, not hard at all really.  It's a rip-stop nylon with some kind of a rubberized coating on one side, and I purchased it at a local fabric store... very inexpensive.   I'm thinking on making a front section that I can attach to enclose the whole thing in.
