one last hoorah
« on: Mar 20, 2016, 08:02 PM »
Got out on the ice for one last time! Headed up to the burg with a buddy to fish Saturday and Sunday.the ice on Francis was very dicey, shorelines were all gone knew it was gonna be cold all weekend so started on 3rd Saturday to let Francis ice stabilize a little.it was cold 8 degrees and wind was already blowing at 530 when we started our hike all the way across 3rd.set up shallow for rainbows but by 10am only managed one tiny bow, and a small laker. so went out a little deeper to jig and got into some small lakers.by noon we'd had enough and we're anxious to go scout out Francis . Couldnt get on where i wanted to but found a good looking spot we could tip-toe out on.drilled our holes, set cusklines and called it a day . Sunday morning was 6degrees but no wind and we were pleasantly surprised with 6 cusk.traps were out n ready by 630 lol then the fallfish started harassing us big ones too so moved out deeper for Browns I did got one but it came unbuttoned at the hole was only a 16" fish at best ended up only getting one more flag another rat laker 11am,we could see where the day was heading so we packed up and headed back home at noon. not the most successful trip but it is always nice to be up there and I can say I was one of the last guys still plugging at it until the final bell!

Nice!! Atleast you got a chance to get one more trip in. And in the Burg, even if you dont do well fishin, its a beautiful place to be.

Way to go Brad I was thinking about you guys, How was the ice at Third? The wind always blows there. I'm surprised you were able to get on Francis. Good job on the cusk .

Thanks denny, there was 30" of ice on 3rd still, top 12" of it was soft but the cold had stiffened it up by the time we left.there was 4 guys fishing around the launch but they didn't catch anything.I met a  Guy named AL' there he was the one who caught that Walter out of 3rd last year and he fishes it every day he guaranteed me it would still be fishable next weekend.Francis shore was quite deteriorated but once on the ice had 14" of ice where we were

I meet Al the weekend before he has the bobhouse to the left and fishes there every day he said. Nice guy and quite the character. It probably would be fishable as long as the shore holds up. Glad you made it and things turned out OK.

Haha AL is definitely a character lol but I'd fish with him anytime.you know when a man has a tan in march he spends a lot of time on the ice.

He told me his mission before he checks out is to break state record for lakers. I wished him good luck. Noticed from your pictures you were dealing with snow. We had glare ice when we were there. Easy pulling the sleds.

That's what it's all about. I've never been that far up NH it's on my list. Way to finish it off. This season was cut off way too short.

Nice job getting out one last time. Your posts have really driven home the fact that I really need to get up there this summer. I had intentions of going up there this winter, but I'm still waiting on the winter thing.

Thanks for sharing the story!
