Ice is changing quickly.  My hand auger is a breezen today. Not good.

But I am finally landing nice jumbo perch.

Headed to crystal beach area next weekend, looks like crispy temps later this week, hopefully it will firm up, just hoofing, no machine this time. Hopefully bomo will be good, but I'm not adverse to driving around to find the ice. Sort of used to the sketchy ice this year, spent the whole season on it down here this year. "Whoa, bit thin over here..." "Well, come back over here, but do it quickly."
A smart person would watch the few that ventured to the ice sheet, the daring would follow in their boot prints, but the pioneers would already be heading to where they belong.

The ice looks good this morning but my boys have fevers so there will be no fishing.  Last Sunday it had definitely started to honeycomb. I do not know if cold snaps can reverse that or not.

I would guess it will be safe on foot. Just be prepared incase you go for a swim.  The bite was great last weekend and I am going to spend this weekend inside stewing about how late ice is the best ice. Family first though.

Good luck

Yeah, made it up, fished all day Saturday off the debris field off the beach, drilled 10" everywhere we went, slow day, only three flags all day amounting in 2 perch, a bunch of marks on the sonar but couldn't get anything to commit, didn't know if they were perch, crappie or smelt, spent more time tying on new lures than fishing it seemed. Fair weather though and got to try out the new shelter, and with the cheap accommodations and the cheap gas, it was worth getting one more day on the ice.

I haven't been by the float bridge but where I have checked the ice is too thin to even try and get on.
