I was on 12" of solid ice yesterday (small inland pond) and despite the ups and downs in the temps the ice is holding. I am sure that Lake Champlain is a different story.

Now that the days are getting longer and the sun higher in the sky, the sun will have more impact on the ice and conditions will change quickly.

It's not over yet but it will most likely be the shortest ice fishing season we have had in a while.

I sure hope it isn't going to be the end, I think most of the lakes and ponds in the northeast will fair ok with the rain at least for a cpl more weeks, going to be around 0 Friday night so hopefully that will freeze up any standing water that's on the ice for the weekend?

bring a 2x6 to get from land to good ice and you're in the money.

The rain definitely isn't helping things. I'm hoping the ice holds out at least through the time off I have scheduled starting March 5th. I guess after that I can be boating and hitting the clearance stuff.

If there's a silver lining in all of this for an ice fisherman it's that the prices on gear are reasonable. I feel very sorry though, for the businesses that depend on winter $
May the fish be with you.

It's not over yet, but the turbidity of the water is going to be high for a while.
Visibility of your jigs will be different.
I just want one more good day of late season perch and I'll be happy.
Sugaring season is starting up anyways.
