My brother is in town this weekend for Henderson, NV. He loves fishing, but has never been ice fishing, so I took him out to Jordanelle this morning. We got lines in the water about 8 and left about 1:30. The ice was about 11" or so. I fished a Kastmaster tipped with Power Bait (trout crack as my brother calls it), and my brother had a bright green plastic jig with wax worms. We both had hot action until about 10. It slowed down quite a bit after that. We only iced one more fish until we left. We brought 4 home and fried 'em for lunch. In total we caught 8 or 9 fish.
We had a really weird thing happen. To be honest I don't think I'd believe this unless it happened to me. We were both fishing (each had our own hole about 2 feet apart) and my brother had a nibble. After a minute it seemed to pass. Then I had a hard hit, fish on, and reeled it up. While it was on the ice and I was getting the forceps to pull the hook out, my brother said he had a fish on. And he said it felt like a real big one! My fish was flopping on the ice, and two times it kept uncannily flopping right to the hole. I pulled it back away from the hole and my brother mentioned that this fish was a real fighter. Well, it turns out that we both caught that fish. As I was pulling my hook out, I could tell there was a second line leading down the fish's throat. And when I looked in his throat, sure enough there was my brother's bright green jig. I don't know how it happened, but for some reason that fish gobbled my bro's jig whole, then decided it was hungry for more and hit mine. We laughed about it for a long time.
All in all a great trip. Weather was great, fishing was fun, and just hanging out with my bro was fun.
