southeast mass
« on: Jan 20, 2016, 05:15 PM »
??? I went out today to check the ice or if there even is any, and as everyone can expect every large body of water is 90-100% open water,I did though find a couple small bass ponds that are sheltered from the wind that had 3- 3 1/2 in. Cold tonight and cold tomorrow storm coming in this weekend, might try at it tomorrow/fri.  Ill post reports.

Anyone in area have any reports in the southeast mass?

Was able to get out on some ice this morning in carver. Ice was 3-3 1/2. A quarter of the pond was still open water from wind. stayed 3 1/2 hours and got 4 bass. Was fun just finally getting out on some local ice. I don't know what this next weeks weather is going to do to it but ill take what i got.

I was out today in Rochester, MA. The ice is not safe, but if you are skilled, know the water, have safety gear rope float suit chisel, you can get on. I will be out tomorrow. Might hit a pond in Rochester and a spot on the Wareham Plymouth line. Be careful but green light is on

I'm gonna hopefully get out Saturday morning and check my usual spots in kingston, if I can keep my plow from breaking every time I fix it. I hate snow  >:(  it's nice to see some out on local ice, let's all be careful.

Made it there got set up, fished about a hour and half got called to plow, such is my luck. Nice area, gonna try to make it out there again. 2 perch and 2 pickerel nothing to brag about. But it felt great to be out there.

  Josh

I checked smelt yesterday - still a ton of open water.   What was iced over was lousy ice and not much of it.    Two of my shiner ponds had under 4"s -Really not much more ice than when I set the traps a couple days ago

Nip in brudgewtr was abt 80 perc ice covered yesterday. Most of the open water is on eastern side. saw one guy fishing on westerm side. Looked like 3 in of white ice to about 50 ft out then skim to open beyond that. Close call for weekend but can prob find safe ice with the usual precautions. Please be careful !

I am from Western, MA, trying to meet some college buddies on the ice out that way. We are all driving about an hour to meet at a centralized location. I was looking at Lake Pearl in Wrentham. Any reports on ice in that area, or just fishing on that lake in general?? Its an hour and a half drive or I would check it out myself. Thanks!

Swanny - You would be a lot better off having your buddies come to you. There is a lot better ice out your way at the moment. I live about a half hour from Wrentham and though I can speak to that particular body of water I think you be hard pressed to find much in the way of safe ice there.

Out in Hanson right now. Seeing anywhere from 3 1/2 inches to 5 inches in a protected cove. One slime dart one fat perch and a few wind flags.  Nice to be on south shore ice.

I was on today in Rochester, MA open water showing. I was on about 2" of good ice covered by 2" of crappy ice covered by snow water and slush. I set out 4 big goldens and waited ....and waited... And waited. It was a beautiful day no wind fox on other side making wild noises.....perfect but no fish. No hits....Ghost town. I'll post a picture or two tonight. My guess is my local season here in Rochester Marion Wareham area is over.
Western mass on Thursday then dreams of next season for me....road trip to Tucson, Arizona by the time I get back it will be open water and waiting for Stipers
