Lowrance Elite 4 Chirp
« on: Jan 18, 2016, 08:34 AM »
Guys I need some help.  I purchased a new Lowrance Elite 4 Chirp and had it on the ice for the 1st time this weekend and had nothing but issues (very well could be operator error)and need some help.  I fish lowrance units in my boat all summer and absolutely love them and have a good base knowledge of how these units work.  The problems I was having is I could not turn the sensitivity up high enough to see my jig on the split sonar screen or the flasher screen. On the flasher side it was going nuts and I could not even mark my jig on it.  Has anyone had similar issues or any advice for me?  Thanks in advance.

I don't have the same unit but others will want to know size of jig and depth of water at the least! As my cheapo old school lowrance will not detect small jigs at certain depths or with zoom on etc! Hopefully someone knows the settings you need! I was planning on upgrading to that device but can't justify the dollars right now! Good luck

You bet MTN.  I was fishing a sweedish pimple with a small dropper in 8 to 40 feet of water this weekend.  Tried all different settings in different depths and had the same result.  Been fishing a vexilar FL-18 for the last 8 years with no issues but really liked the fact I could use my navionics chip with all my waypoints in this unit.  Unless I can figure this out I may send it back and buy a FL-28......

Select ice ducer from the system settings. Put the unit into shallow water mode for under 60'. Change background to black fish reveal. Put it into graph mode, forget the flasher. Interference to none if you are alone. Put sensitivity to 60% and watch your pimple go down. Adjust from there.

I was just watching the smallest pimple in 17' of water with those settings and sensitivity at 56% the other day.

Thanks Kevin.   I had it in Ice ducer mode but not sure about shallow water mode, and I know I didn't have it in black fish reveal.  I will give it a shot and see how it works.  I appreciate the info

Guys I set my settings to what Kevin explained but does anyone else have any tips or opinions on if these units are better/equal or worse than flasher units?  I loved my vexilar but wanted to have the GPS unit built in.  Thanks for any feedback.

I got one for my pontoon and just got the ice machine kit for it. I have yet to get out, just now have good ice, but here is a thread about the Elite %. I am going to try these settings this weekend.

Hope they work, I think you just have to play with sensitivity.

I would make sure your in manual mode, and turn off fish ID. Then play with color line and sensitivity until you see your jig clearly.

I use my Elite 4 in 40-50 FOW with tiny jigs for perch and never have a problem.  Took me awhile to get the settings right but once I figured it out I love it.  One thing that I have noticed though is that vertical jigs like pimples or Halis sometimes do not show very well.  Horizontal jigs always show much better.  Also I never use split screen or flasher mode, only use the graph.  Turn surface clarity off and play with your color line and sensitivity.  Also always make sure your transducer is well below the bottom of the ice.

Glad to hear some positives for this unit.  I hope I can tune mine in this weekend and get it rolling.

I thought about that and giving it a try but knowing my luck I would lose or break one of them and they are a little spendy
